Black Château
Four years owning content and newsletter for a literary publicity agency.
Role, Social Media Manager, content strategy, newsletter editorial, festival programming.
Context
Four years inside Black Chateau, an independent literary publicity agency, owning content, newsletter, and the editorial spine of The BookFest.
Problem
Independent authors and small literary brands compete with publishing giants for attention. Black Chateau's audience was loyal but fragmented across a newsletter, a recurring virtual book festival, and individual author rollouts, with no consistent editorial spine holding it together.
Insight
Readers don't follow agencies, they follow voices. The agency's strongest asset wasn't reach, it was trust, which meant the work had to feel like an editorial publication, not a promotional channel.
Idea
Treat Books That Make You as a real magazine: a clear editorial calendar, recurring formats, and a tone that prioritised readers over publishers. Use The BookFest as the live extension of that voice.
