Garment system designed for premature babies.
Role, Concept, research, and garment design.
Context
Self-initiated design research project, later recognised by the WORTH Prize EU and presented at Fuorisalone Milano Design Week.
Problem
Standard newborn clothing doesn't fit premature babies, and most NICU-friendly options are clinical, hard to put on around medical equipment, and stripped of any sense of dignity for the parents.
Insight
Parents of premature babies don't just need functional clothing, they need a small piece of normal. A garment that says this is my child, not just this is a patient.
Idea
A wrap-style garment system designed around medical access points, made from soft natural fibres, with a quiet, considered aesthetic that respects both the baby and the parent.
